Taking poetry from the page to the stage!

Vanessa Kisuule and Mixy Join National Poetry Competition Judging Panel...

Poetry Rivals is delighted to announce that MC Mixy and 2011 Poetry Rivals Slam Champ Vanessa Kisuule is joining the 2014 judging panel alongside Mark Grist and Fay Roberts.

Vanessa is a performance poet, writer, barista, dance teacher and blag artist. She has won several slam titles including Farrago Schools Out Slam Champion 2010, Bang Said The Gun Award, Poetry Rivals 2011, Next Generation Slam 2012, Slambassadors 2010 and South West Hammer and Tongue Slam Champion 2012 and most recently Roundhouse Slam 2014.

Rapper turned poet, Mixy has been performing to audiences all around the UK for the last 8 years and impressing crowds with his unique blend of hip hop and spoken word. Along with 3 successful Edinburgh Fringe runs under his belt for spoken word shows, Mixy is also a battle rapper with one of the best win loss records in leading UK rap battle league ‘Don’t Flop’. He is currently taking some time out to work on his 7th recording project that he hopes to have finished by early 2015.

We’ve also extended the closing date for Poetry Rivals 2014 to Friday 31st October. This means we can celebrate poetry throughout October and particularly on National Poetry Day, which falls on Thursday 2nd October this year and has the theme of ‘Remember’.

The top 100 poets will be invited to the slam final to perform their poem in front of a live audience, professional judges, and press. One poet will be crowned Poetry Rivals Slam Champion 2014 and win the publishing contract at the final. This is not an opportunity to be missed!
